Dreams Come True

We all need to have something we’re proud of. For me, it’s my great-grandfather. He was the first African-American doctor in Coweta County, Georgia, in the late 1800’s. Just thinking about him makes me stand up just a little straighter. Not because of what he did but because of who he was. Dr. John Henry Jordan was a man who refused to compromise. When there seemed to be no way, he found one. That’s what is so amazing to me. It’s a lesson I think we all can learn from. Succeeding at all costs was Jordan’s motto. He lived those words. He never gave up. Why should anyone? What is the alternative? Living life as you always have, I guess. But why settle? Even though my great-grandfather died at a young age - in a car accident at the age of 42 - at least he knew he had accomplished what he set out to do. He achieved what everyone else told him was impossible. So I like to believe that in the midst of his tragic death, my grandfather was able to leave here somewhat satisfied. How many people live to see their dreams come true?
